Explore new congressional districts with HANYS’ tool

Many of New York’s hospitals and health systems can expect new elected officials representing their communities next year. HANYS’ interactive redistricting tool compares existing congressional district lines and the hospitals within them to the updated lines under which candidates will be elected in November and take office in January 2023.


State legislative activity

This week, several bills passed both houses of the Legislature and are now awaiting delivery to Gov. Hochul, including:

  • OMIG reforms (A.7889-A/S.4486-B)
  • Surgical smoke policies (A.9974/S.8869)
  • Enhanced safety net hospital definition (A.3511-A/S.3530-A)
  • OB and midwifery medical liability premium reduction (A.8392-A/S.3010-A)
  • PACE program oversight (A.9542/S.8903)

New resource on monkeypox available as numbers climb

The fact sheet from NYC Health + Hospitals gives an overview of the disease as well as recommendations for screening, testing and treatment. Providers should continue to monitor DOH and CDC for updated information.


DOH issues letter on medical supply shortages

The letter reviews known medical supply shortages, offers advice for hospitals on conservation measures and recommends interfacility reallocation where surpluses exist.


DOH extends influenza surveillance season

The season, which usually runs October through May, has been extended because of elevated, widespread influenza activity throughout New York state. Updated influenza surveillance and links to prevention and control information are available in the DOH advisory.
