Ken Schoetz Appointed President of Western New York Healthcare Association
BUFFALO, N.Y. — At its annual meeting in Buffalo on June 8, the Western New York Healthcare Association (WNYHA) Board of Trustees appointed Kenneth A. Schoetz as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association. In this role, he will oversee all of WNYHA’s operations and will work with the Board to establish and execute strategic direction and objectives to support healthcare providers and patient care in Western New York.
Part of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS), WNYHA is a not-for-profit association that provides advocacy, representation, and education to hospitals and other healthcare facilities in Western New York.

Urlaub, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. “After an extensive search, it is clear he is the right person to lead our organization in this time of unprecedented healthcare change, and to position Western New York’s healthcare providers for the future. His experience, vision, and leadership will be essential to advancing our mission of ensuring access to quality healthcare throughout the region.”

Mr. Schoetz brings to WNYHA wide-ranging experience in healthcare and business. Most recently, he served as Corporate Counsel and Executive Vice President, Business Development, for Snyder Corp., located in Buffalo, New York, with domestic subsidiaries, which provides medical transportation and operates real estate properties. Snyder Corp. is part owner of the urgent care provider, MASH Care Network, which aims to improve patient access to the right care, at the right place and time, at the lowest possible cost.
Mr. Schoetz was formerly Senior Vice President of Regional Offices for Empire State Development, where he oversaw efforts to recruit new business and support existing businesses for the ten regions of New York State. Before that, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Empire State Development. Mr. Schoetz previously served as Assistant Attorney General in charge of the New York State Attorney General’s Buffalo Office. Prior to that, he worked in Erie County government, first serving as First Assistant Erie County Attorney and then moving on to serve as Erie County Attorney. He also served a four-year term in the Hamburg Village government.
Mr. Schoetz received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Economics from Williams College in Massachusetts and his Juris Doctor degree from the University at Buffalo Law School where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.
Mr. Schoetz is expected to formally begin his position with the Association July 10.
The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is the only statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York State, representing 500 non-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other healthcare organizations.
