Statement by HANYS President Bea Grause Regarding the Failure of the U.S. Senate's ACA Repeal Bill
ALBANY, N.Y. — "We are relieved that Senate will not be voting on its ACA repeal bill. This bill, frankly, was worse than the House version. Reductions in coverage combined with Medicaid cuts would have harmed patients and devastated healthcare institutions.
We are concerned by the President and Senate Majority Leader’s suggestion that Congress might now repeal the ACA without a replacement. This is not a responsible alternative approach. In fact, it would create greater uncertainty throughout the sector.
The answer is a bipartisan approach that preserves the positive aspects of the ACA while addressing its shortcomings. We urge lawmakers to work together to make the healthcare system stronger –– improving access, quality and affordability. We are eager to assist them in this process."
