The Role of Human Factors in Patient Safety

This HANYS C2X webinar will feature a presentation on “The Role of Human Factors in Patient Safety”’ featuring Erin Lawler, MS, CPPS, Human Factors Engineer, Office of Quality and Patient Safety, Division of Quality Improvement, The Joint Commission.

Ms. Lawler will discuss the complex interactions of humans and other elements in our systems, show a socio-technical model, biases, ergonomics, and personal, environmental, and organization factors. She will go on to show the relationship to high reliability and various action steps. Ms. Lawler is in active practice within the Joint Commission enterprise to assist in various risk and quality areas. Prior to the Joint Commission, she was a human factors engineer for the Department of Defense Patient Safety and Analysis Center. She has a Master’s of Science in Human Factors and Ergonomics from Cornell University.

We encourage your quality, safety, and engineer staff to join. This can also be beneficial for your executives and managers.
