Outcomes and combating resistance with antibiotic stewardship

Arjun Srinivasan, MD, associate director, healthcare associated infection prevention programs, healthcare quality promotion, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Disease, CDC, will discuss strategies for hospital stewardship programs, how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted antibiotic use and the benefits of reporting to the NHSN AUR Module.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • describe the impact of COVID-19 on antibiotic use across the healthcare spectrum;
  • list the benefits of reporting antibiotic use data into the CDC’s NHSN AUR Module; and
  • describe key strategies for hospital stewardship programs as outlined in the CDC’s Core Elements for Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Programs.
