Virtual SWAT 2021: The assault on hospital-based services

Oct. 27
Webinar

1 - 4 p.m.

This program is open to HANYS members only.

In the wake of a financially devastating pandemic, hospitals face a constant barrage of site-of-service policies from health plans that steer patients away from hospital-based services in an effort to reduce costs.

Plans’ attempt to blame the hospital community for rising patient costs ultimately impacts patient care, narrows patient choice, devalues hospital contracts and overrides physician decision-making while increasing plans’ profits for shareholders.

Our Virtual SWAT 2021 sessions will include:

  • Understanding the issue: An overview of the onslaught of steerage policies that aim to move patient care away from hospitals as health plans actively seek to own more of the continuum of care and new players enter the market from other industries.
  • Legal ramifications: Legal protections are afforded to providers through state and federal laws, as well as legal and contractual strategies for protecting your facility from abusive policies. Gain practical takeaways for maintaining relationships and revenue streams.
  • A hospital perspective: Two hospital systems will share their perspectives on how to engage with plans using business strategies, legal protections and partnerships while protecting your bottom line.
  • Department of Financial Services perspective: DFS regulates the insurance industry and works to build bridges between plans and providers. John Powell, the Deputy Superintendent for Health, will share his perspective on managing new plan policies, including the factors considered by DFS when reviewing these policies and how to protect New York’s healthcare consumers while encouraging managed care growth and innovation.

Registration is $200 per member facility. Each attendee must register. After the initial paid registrant, additional individuals from the same facility may register as a group or individually at no charge. Each facility within a system will be subject to the $200 fee.
