Rochester General Transforms Care With Telemedicine

Distance from providers of advanced care has often been a barrier to healthcare access. Telemedicine can bring access to primary care and advanced treatments to rural and inner-city communities. Hospitals and health systems have invested in and embraced telemedicine to transform care by using technology to provide patient-centered access to health assessment, diagnosis, intervention, consultation, supervision, and information, regardless of physical location.

Rochester General Health System provides multi-specialty, consultative outpatient services to patients at rural and urban clinics, inpatient consults including tele-intensive care unit services for two affiliate hospitals, inpatient consults at skilled nursing facilities both in rural and urban communities, and a pilot tele-home care program to reduce readmissions for patients with active congestive heart failure.
