Statement from Healthcare Association of New York State President Dennis P. Whalen
I applaud Governor Cuomo and the Legislature for their work on a budget agreement that improves the quality of care for all New Yorkers while reducing costs. The budget agreement provides more than a billion dollars in capital restructuring funds that will be used to improve the financial stability of health care facilities throughout the state and increases support for the Vital Access Provider program. We look forward to working with the Administration on the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY) and for the All Payers Claims Database (APCD), which present opportunity for improved quality and collaboration. The budget agreement provides additional funding for the Doctors Across New York program, which provides loans and practice support for doctors who agree to work in underserved communities, allowing for greater access to primary healthcare for all. Additionally, the budget eliminates the two percent Medicaid reimbursement cut to providers which provides welcome relief.
