HANYS Awarded New York State Health Foundation Patients as Partners Grant
ALBANY, NY — The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) has been named one of four winners of the highly competitive Patients as Partners grant from the New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth). Through Patients as Partners, NYSHealth supports projects that seek system improvements, practice innovations or policy reforms designed to benefit and empower patients and consumers.
HANYS’ project, to be conducted over a 24-month period, will support 12 hospitals in the state in achieving Bronze Certification from Planetree, an international non-profit organization that facilitates patient-centered care in healing environments. Successful implementation of the Planetree model has been demonstrated to improve both process and outcome measures related to the “Quadruple Aim” of better care, better health outcomes, reduced costs and restoring joy in work. The project continues and deepens the work recently conducted as part of HANYS’ and Planetree’s yearlong Patient Experience Collaborative.
“HANYS members are committed to delivering high-quality, safe, patient-centered care. We appreciate the Foundation’s generous support of our efforts to improve the care of patients and communities in New York,” said Bea Grause, RN, JD, President, HANYS.
“Planetree is pleased to continue our relationship with HANYS and its members,” said Susan Frampton, PhD, President, Planetree. “We look forward to working with New York hospitals as they accelerate and strengthen their efforts to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care.”
“Putting patients at the center can radically change our healthcare system,” said David Sandman, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer, NYSHealth. “Planetree helps hospitals in the hard work of redesigning care around the patient, who is too often treated as an afterthought. We are excited to support HANYS in spreading this model across the state and giving New Yorkers a voice in their care.”
HANYS’ project will be housed in HANYS’ Quality Advocacy, Research, and Innovation (QARI) division, led by Loretta Willis, RN, BSN, Vice President. Ms. Willis and her team of clinical and policy professionals manage a number of voluntary collaboratives and support networks focused on improving quality, safety and outcomes for New York healthcare organizations across the continuum of care.
The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) works to ensure every New Yorker has access to affordable, high-quality care. We advance the health of individuals and communities by providing leadership, representation, and service to not-for-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare organizations throughout New York.
