Statement by Bea Grause, RN, JD, president of HANYS regarding the governor’s amended budget proposal
ALBANY, NY — Every New Yorker ought to be outraged by the Governor’s proposed $1.1 billion cut to New York’s hospitals in his amended budget. This out-sized, massive take-away will result in reduced access to care across New York state at a time when we are trying to invest in communities and improve patient care and safety.
Our not-for-profit providers are local economic engines and these hospital cuts will result in job loss, patient harm and economic losses. Cuts of this magnitude will not heal.
We will do everything in our power to fight these ill-conceived cuts. Our patients expect and deserve better.
HANYS is the only statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York State, representing non-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other healthcare organizations.
