Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Starts Here: How EDs and Medical/Surgical Units Can Connect Patients to Treatment

Speaker:

Hannah Snyder, MD, principal investigator, SHOUT; assistant professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine, UCSF at Zuckerberg San Francisco General

This webinar will provide attendees with resources for hospital based buprenorphine and methadone starts. It will outline the key principles of rapid treatment starts in ED and inpatient settings. It will also discuss key supports including:

  • The UCSF Clinician Consultation Center’s Substance Use Warmline, which provides free, point-of-care clinician support for any questions regarding substance use, from straightforward to challenging

At the end of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • understand the role of acute care hospitals in opioid use disorder treatment;
  • articulate steps for rapidly starting medications for opioid use disorder (buprenorphine, methadone) in emergency and acute care settings;
  • understand clinical resources available to all hospital-based providers, including the national Substance Use Warmline and California Bridge Project; and
